Can you turn off utilities to a home that you own if someone else is staying there and will not leave?

Trying to get someone out of my house, I have actually moved out just to get away from them, but I am paying mortgage & utilities (I know, stupid right?). Everyone tells me to cut off utilities and they would have to leave. Is this legal?

If you left your own home to escape anyone other than relatives you feel an unmet obligation toward, it's time to rethink your steps, and perhaps even if that is indeed the reason. There are a number of very competent attorneys in Claremore, and in nearby communities. The coming week will be difficult to make an appointment due to holidays, but I imagine many will be in on Monday. Pull out you local directory and start calling around on Monday morning, or ask friends for recommendations. I suggest not killing your utilities. The recent cold spell can play havoc on your property rather quickly. If these people have you afraid to return home, you can also consider seeking an Emergency Order of Protection.

Mr. Pate has pointed out an important practical problem, namely the damage to your home from freezing. That being said, you are not legally obligated to provide utility service to the house unless you have signed a contract that requires you to do that. But if you turn off the utilities it seems likely that your tenant will just have those services turned back on. It sounds like you need to start the eviction process. That is more likely to be successful if you follow the advice of your attorney.
