Can someone send you a legitimate court hearing notice by email?

I received a court notice for a different state for a hearing in approx. 2 weeks by email.I am very scared and worried if I'm not present that I would be in contempt of court or something. Looks official, sender states " [email protected] " when I click on who its from. The only reason I've even entertained the idea of someone suing me is because I have received phone calls last year and again recently stating if I didn't pay for a cleaning product I purchased from this Blind Company I would be sent to collections and sued. I've asked them several times to mail me something and that I was not comfortable paying over phone. They were very upset and said they would take it to court. We are talking about a $40 item at the most and they have added a few hundred for back interest.

You mention you are being sued in a different state, so you should consult with an attorney licensed in that state to answer your question about that state's laws.

Without seeing the notice, it is difficult to say what you have been "served" with and whether the service is valid. Assuming there will be a hearing soon where your rights may be determined by a judge, you should promptly consult with a local attorney to ascertain your rights. Good luck.
