Do I fight my speeding ticket VC 22350 ? Officer marked me 58 on a 35 mph zone?

The officer used a laser gun to determine my speed and showed me the gun afterwards. This is my first speeding ticket ever and I would like some push in the right direction.

The use of a laser device involks the speed trap laws and they are technical and specific and require a Engineering and Traffic Survey, current. You should definitely fight the ticket, but you may want to consult a competent traffic ticket attorney to assist you.

Show up in court and ask for a trial, about 1/3 of the time an officer will not show up and the ticket is dismissed. Other than that you will probably lose if you do not have an attorney and even with one you still face a chance of losing.

Fighting a ticket yourself is difficult. First, you'll probably have to post a bail amount (roughly the same amount as the fine) just to get a trial date and enter a not guilty plea. When attorneys appear for you, this is usually waived. Judges also have much less patience with non-attorneys trying to explain their case without understanding the procedures. If you do go to court on your own, ask the judge for an "OR" (own recognizance release) and ask for a trial date. You'll have months before the trial and might get to talk to the officer that day to get it reduced. Again, an attorney with experience handling traffic matters in LA will be in a better position to negotiate with the officer (if they in fact show up).

I would recommend fighting the ticket in court. If the officer does not show up, ticket will be dismissed. If you are not comfortable making an appearance, there are many lawyers on who can help fight traffic tickets. This ticket can be expensive if point goes on your record.
