Wrong parking citation code? Different fine? Sign behind car.

I parked on a street in San Diego where there is no parking from 7am to 10am on Mondays for street sweeping. The officer wrote the ticket for code 86.0112(E): "Standing or Parking in Specified Places Prohibited: No person shall park or stand a vehicle: (e) In violation of any sign or curb marking limiting or regulating the parking or standing of a vehicle." I believe the correct code is 86.0117: "Parking or Standing in Designated Street Sweeping Zones at Certain Posted Times." So, I was wondering if the fine is lower if 86.0117 is correct. Also, the sign was posted behind my car, not in front of it. Could either of these be reason for a lesser fine or a possible appeal?

Maybe. If you have the means to do so you should hire a locally experienced defense attorney who can appear in court for you and try and get the case dismissed.

Yes, it is possible. If you have the time to go to court to argue this, do so and good luck.
