What can I do to protect my interest in an estate inheritance ?

9 views 4 answers
Mother passed without a will, no executor or probate at this point. Sister and I are only children no spouse. Sister secretly obtained $8k cash from mother's valuables at hospital when she passed and has not come forth with those proceeds, I obtained documentation of the release from the hospital to my sister. My mother owned a house (outright), there were back taxes totaling $3k and IRS taxes totaling approx. $2k. I'm fearful that the county or irs will impose tax liens or force tax sale of the property. Is there anything I can do, is this legal ?

Best thing to do is hire an attorney to help preserve your interest.

As Robert wisely suggested, involve a lawyer in the situation ASAP as you have numerous legal problems at this point and given the facts, they will only likely increase in size rather than diminish. Use the avvo lawyer search to locate some lawyers near you that you would be interested in an initial consultation with, and go from there. Best of luck

You need a probate lawyer. Today. I know the financing that will be difficult, but otherwise everything will be lost to your sister or the county.... Good luck.
