I live in Fairfax, VA. I was returning from Norfolk and got a reckless ticket on New Kent County. I was going 92/70mph. It was a sunday night and I had been working all day from 5 and drove there straight, picked up someone and was returning right back. So I had a lot of driving. The roads were clear and few cars were going around my speed at some parts of the road. I didn't realize i was going that fast and I wanted to get to the next service station to take a leak. I was pulled over and he asked me the speed limit and i said probably 70 and asked if i was speeding? He said I was going 92 and wrote me a ticket. I have no other ticket except one for exhaust for my old car which i bought like that and +3 driving points. I'm thinking of driver improvement course for backup? What should I do
Your best move here is to contact a lawyer in your area. They will be familiar with the courts and how they handle cases like yours. So courts do a diversion program where you go through some classes, and then the charge gets dismissed. That lawyer will also have a good idea of the effects of the ticket, and whether it is worth fighting it.
Contacting an attorney sooner is better than later. Too often people wait until the last minute to try to get legal advice.
So, was this in Virginia? Either way, it always pays to consult with an attorney. Don't make the mistake so many others do when they think they can handle it on their own. An attorney will not only make the outlook of a positive outcome more promising, but they'll also save you time and effort. An attorney will be able to make appearances for you, make sure that all necessary requirements are satisfied in a timely fashion, and will keep you up-to-date on everything that's going on with your case.
Best of luck.
In VA, reckless driving is a must appear/jailable offense, and the judge can suspend your license, so you need to hire counsel to avoid or mitigate the consequences. A conviction of that charge may cause your insurance rates to soar (or get you cancelled). There are strategies on how to proceed, possible options for a reduced charge, as well as identifying the necessary documentation and information to avoid a suspension (or to get a work restricted license if necessary). Hire a Virginia lawyer.
