Filing a false police report.

Business 5 views 3 answers
My nephew made a false police report saying that he was attacked and robbed. I know this is a offense. However, what I would like to know is: (a) can the police find out that the report was fake (b) if my nephew told the police that he no longer wanted the matter to go further, could the police investigate without co-operation? Further, would the length of the police investigation serve as a more severe factor? --- Is there a chance that the investigation will just run it's cause and their will be no further action based on the lack of evidence? Thanks in advance for any answer(s).

First and foremost, I would kindly but very strongly recommend you post nothing further about this alleged incident on the internet -- consult IN PRIVATE with a criminal defense attorney who is very familiar with the 48th District Court (assuming that is where your nephew's case is). A lawyer may recommend your nephew "fesses up" to what he did, in order to mitigate the damages, but a lot more info would need to be known to give your nephew a definitive answer as to how he should proceed. Time is definitely of the essence in your nephew's situation, so please ensure he consults in private with a criminal defense attorney ASAP. I wish your nephew all the best of luck. Warmest regards, Matt Catchick.

Have your relative hire defense counsel. You were smart to check out . Use Find a Lawyer here on . Do not have him speak to the police without an attonrey

I agree with my colleagues. An issue may be why he filed a false report and the circumstances around it. The more time/money that is put into investigating this, the more upset the authorities will be. I think working on resolving this now is a must. He should hire an attorney asap.
