I received a DUI in Hawaii and have ended my revocation period, can I get a drivers license in Virginia?

My revocation period has ended for my DUI and don't think I have time to go through the process of relicensing in Hawaii before I move to Virginia.

The easiest way to get that answer is to go to DMV and apply for a license or request a compliance summary if you are turned down. If HI is like VA there will be a reinstatement fee that must be paid prior to the restriction being lifted. If you get turned down at DMV, bring the lawyer of your choosing the compliance summary. That will help get you reinstated faster.

The best bet is to call the DMV in Hawaii or go online and see if you can pay the reinstatement fee. This may eliminate any potential problems that you would encounter at the Virginia DMV when you attempt to get relicensed here.

Dear Newport News- generally, the states share data and respect the actions of sister states and the suspensions issued by them. Virginia DMV will need proof that you have complied with all of Hawaii's requirements for reinstatement. This is to keep folks from skipping from state to state. Please get a written listing of what Hawaii DMV says you have to do, then get those things done..otherwise you risk being barred from getting a license elsewhere. Good luck.
