I was unaware my boyfriend did not have an up to date license. He drove my car to get something for me. He was coming home and got into a bad accident. 3 other cars were involved. I believe they had insurance as well. My boyfriend got a ticket for driving without a license and running a red light. He was at fault. My car is fully insured by mercury it was totalled. Will my insurance still cover my car and the other peoples car for the damages? Or will we have to pay out of pocket? Please help. It occurred in Long Beach ca

Depends on your insurance coverage. Was your BF license suspended or just expired? Did your boyfriend have insurance? Some insurance companies only cover the drivers they insured and no other driver of the vehicle. The problem is, you knowingly lent your car to your boyfriend. Not only is he responsible for the accident, you are responsible for the accident. This means, they can come after you personally for the damages as well as attack your drivers license for lack of financial responsibility which is a 1 year suspension. You need to figure out what your insurance does and does not cover ASAP.

This is a coverage issue. If your BF is a resident driver and uses your vehicle on a regular basis more likely than not, coverage will be excluded. Your insurance will ask for your statement as well as your boyfriend's statement before affording coverage. If this was just an isolated occasion he drove the vehicle, you will likely her covered. I suggest you discuss this matter with a lawyer before providing a statement to the insurance company so that you may not lose coverage for the incident. Good Luck.
