cop I was drunk, because the cop look like he wanted me to say it and I thought he was drunk too, with his ego. So, I didn't take the "test" breath, and the cop gave me consequential tickets, many, many tickets. So, do a lawyer here or anywhere have "connections" to give me good deal. I am guilty as a blue rock and I don't like fighting, plus I can get a ride to work and I am young and will be financially superb one day down the road, no pun intended. Driving while DWI is no fun, but paying the money? Ridiculous. Thank you.

Because a good lawyer can keep you from continuing with your non-defense. And get you a better result than you would otherwise.

A lawyer can help you avoid jail time, which is one thing you fail to consider, and is possible even on a first offense. A lawyer can also help get some of your "many many" other tickets dismissed so that your points are reduced, and you don't experience additional annual MVC surcharges and further license suspensions. Contact a DUI attorney directly for more information.

Umm, because a lawyer has legal training and experienced and will be better equipped to identify defenses you may have overlooked, and to get you the best deal possible?

Well it sounds like you have made up you mind here. However, there are several reasons why you should fight a refusal and DWI. First, regardless of whether you are a first, second, or more offender, you will have to install an ignition interlock device in your car when your get your license back. If you have a commercial license, you will lose it for a year for a first offense and for life if you are a second offender. Another reason to fight is because you will be prevented from entering Canada or other countries for a DWI conviction. Also, if you have a license issued by another State, a lawyer may be able to perform things for you that he could not if you are a NJ licensed drive. Before making such a rash decision to not hire a layer, you should give a lawyer, who specializes in DWI and refusal a call to discuss the facts of your case.

Anyone who represents himself is a fool. If a lawyer got a dui he would hire an attorney. You need an attorney often the conviction can be kept off your record.

You are looking at a potential 3 month suspension on the DWI and 7-12 months on the refusal. An attorney can see if there are any ways to reduce one or both of these tickets. You need to try to merge the two so you get only a 7 month suspension. The prosecutor is permitted to run them concurrent, meaning 10 months. There will be only one $1000/year for three year surcharge though, about $700 up front in fines on the DWI and $400 (?) more on the refusal, an interlock on your car for a minimum of 6 months after suspension, $100 to the IDRC which you attend from 12-24 hours, $100 to restore and likely a $500-$1500/year increase in insurance for likely three years at least. There is 30 days in jail but that is rare. So there is no real reason for an attorney since the penalties are so minimal and if the attorney can't find a loophole you lose that money too. Good thinking.

Dude, seriously...you should get a lawyer. The consequences of a DUI are not limited to what you pay now. You can have your license suspended. You will have to explain that mess to employers ALL YOUR LIFE. Plus, you can face difficulties getting a firearms license, if you want one. Indeed, you might not be able to go to Canada. Their immigration people don't like DUI convictions. It isn't that a lawyer has the connections, though those do help, it's that a lawyer can minimize these secondary consequences. The law says what it says. That much is true. But what the law says isn't what works out in the real world. Lawyers can do a lot about how it will really be for you in the future. Your attitude suggest that you will not take my advice, but I give it anyway. The secondary consequences of a record, the lost license, the potential for you to have to deal with this again and again...if you really are gonna be all that and have no financial problems to worry about, then why worry on this? Get a lawyer. Take care of this mess. You will be happier in the future.

Put simply you are hurting your case and defense not having an attorney. A lawyer can help you avoid jail time, and can also help to fight, and get dismissed, the other tickets so that your points are reduced, and you don't experience additional annual MVC surcharges and further license suspensions. Hire an attorney.
