Can community service be converted into a fine?

I got 20 hours of community service for illegal possession of marijuana. I am a foreign student. I still have time on my service however I had to return to my country because of a family emergency. I will not be able to return before the service deadline. Is it possible that I can convert it into a fine?
Your sentence cannot be converted, but you could be resentenced or have the time to complete the community service extended. You need to contact your attorney to advise the Court. If you did not have an attorney, you better advise the Court.
I am going to assume you received an ACD which allows the court to impose community service. I do not think it authorizes the imposition of fine. I suggest you contact your attorney without delay to seek additional time to complete your community service. You should be prepared to document the nature of your family emergency.
