Hi, My employer filled H4 visa extension for my wife. But we did not received approval notice. I called to USICS, now they are asking to file form I-824 to get duplicate copy of approval notice. it will cost me around $400. What if i will not receive approval notice after filling I-824 ? Can i get certified mail from USICS after filling I-824 ? I am interested to fill I-824 by any lawyer. How much i have to pay to lawyer for filling I-824 ?

If you want them to send you the approval notice so you can track it, send a return shipment bill. They will mail it to you per your instructions. Each attorney's fees vary. Call a few offices and discuss your requirements.

Lawyers set their own fees so you need to contact each lawyer directly about the fee. You may mail certified to USCIS they do not send certified mail except when they decide to do so.

Did you move and notify USCIS of your change of address? An attorney can file the I-824 for you but the fees will vary according to experience.

Was the H4 extension filed concurrently with your H1B extension? And, if so, was your H1B extension filed under premium processing? When was the H1B and H4 filed? When the H4 extension was filed, USCIS would have generated a "receipt notice". Have you or your employer received the receipt notice? This is something a Congressional office could look into, possibly avoiding your having to file an I-824.
