You may make investments, you open a company but you may not be employed in any capacity without being in F-1 status and having opt.

Yes, you can. However and practically you need to hire a manager or have a shareholder who is also an executive to run the day to day operations. You need the assistance of a business attorney to be sure to stay in compliance. Best
