Boat accident, aug 2013, head injury, hospital bills $18,000. 2 hospitals, unconscious for 7 hours, hospitalized for 2 days, dizzy, head aches and neck pain for 5 to 6 months while working. I have a dent in my head, a lot of anxiety getting back on a boat. My credit rating has decreased due to medical bills going to collection agencies. The driver was at fault and their insurance company 1st offered $17,000. I explained that this didn't cover my medical bills, they told me to come up with an amount I thought would be fair and I said $45,000. They came up to $25,000. I don't think this is a fair offer. The boat driver is a friend and neighbor should I just settle?
You should at the very least consult with an attorney. Many attorneys, including myself, offer free initial consultations. Many will only take a contingency fee on any additional money they obtain for you.
Contact local and qualified counsel asap. Do not speak with the opposing insurance company further. Hopefully, you have not overly damaged your case. Good lcuk.
You should not just settle, if you want to protect yourself and receive fair compensation. You would be wise to stop communicating with the insurance company and consult with an experienced KS personal injury attorney. You probably already damaged the value of your claim by making the demand that you did, which now has to be undone. The more you try to do this yourself, the more likely there will be a bad result .
The best thing would be to stop communicating with the insurance company. As others have said, you probably already damaged your case, but don't let it become worse. Most attorney's will be able to deal with your hospital bills while your case is pending. It would be in your best interest to find an experienced personal injury attorney to take over your claim.
