Do I need to contact my companies insurance provider if I am being sued personally for neglect for an accident on the clock?

Good evening, about 2 years ago I was involved in an accident while driving a company vehicle when an item from the trailer flew off and several vehicles ran over this item. The first car we had to replace a part underneath the car, the second vehicle no issues, the third vehicle a flat tire. No injures at all. I received a letter stating the third vehicle with the flat tire is now not only suing the company but is coming after me personally stating I was negligent. Should I contact the issuance company for the company I was working for at the time? Or do I need to hire a lawyer to defend me? Any advise would be great. Thank you so much.
In Florida, both you and/or your employer can be sued for your negligence assuming you were acting in the course and scope of your employment. As a practical matter, it is common that when a corporation and its employee are both sued under these circumstances, the employer's insurer will provide a defense for both the employer and the employee depending on how the insurance policy is written. For that reason (among others) it would behoove you to notify your employer's insurer as soon as possible.

You should contact your employer's insurance company about the claim. it ought to handle it for you. If you don't contact it, you give it a reason to deny coverage. You probably do not need a private lawyer unless the cliam is huge or the carrier refuse to defend you.
You should contact both your employer's insurance company and your own insurance company. They should represent you and decide between them which insurance company will be primary for coverage.
