I am getting a divorce and my Husband's lawyer told him that she cannot speak to me. I need to ask her a question.

Why do I have to list my assets, and not liabilities? And why do I have to sign a Social Security affidavit?

Your social security number is required by Florida law. You are required to list both assets and liabilities.

Many attorneys follow their own personal set of ethical standards to avoid any hint of impropriety when dealing with opposing Pro Se litigants. If you have a question, send the attorney an email to the email address she has designated for communication in the case. Please remember though, that attorney cannot advise you on the legal matter and will likely need to confer with her client before answering.

When you say "list", I am guessing that you are referring to the financial affidavit. On the current long and short affidavit forms, you are required to list both assets and liabilities because both will have to be addressed for equitable distribution in your divorce. Divorces are reported to the state and tracked / assigned to you via your social security number. Additionally, social security numbers are required for tracking and enforcing child support obligations.
