I was added to my boyfriends bank account to help with paying bills. The account was wiped out due to court order on past medical bills of mine. I haven't worked in a year and have no income. All of the money they took was his. What can we do? Thanks

Generally it is dangerous to add someone to a bank account. You can look for a free consultation, but I suspect if you were jointly owner of the account, your creditors can attach it. It would have been wiser to get a debit card with you as an authorized card holder, and have left the ownership of the account in his name.

Assuming there was a court judgment against you, but not also against him, and he can prove the money in the joint bank account that was garnished came from him and not you, he is entitled to challenge the garnishment (there should be instructions and paperwork to do so included with the copy of the garnishment papers the creditor sent you) and, assuming he proves ownership of the funds, it should be refunded to him. Depending upon the strength of his proof, the opposing party's attorney may be willing to refund the funds without even going to court. Depending upon how much was garnished, it may or may not make sense for your boyfriend to seek a local attorney's review and help in preparing for and going to the court hearing. Good luck.

Putting your name on the bank account created the impression that your money was in there. The account may also have been a joint account with right of survivorship. That actually gave you an interest in the account's funds. That's the problem. The solution is your boyfriend immediately seeking a protective order against the execution. He will have to prove the money is his and not yours. good luck
