I am in desperate need of a family & divorce lawyer. I can not afford a lawyer at this time.

What can I do? I am very fearful not having the help of a family/divorce lawyer. I guess I am throwing a bone out there and seeing what I can do. I am unemployed and do not have any means of any help. Is anyone available to help me, or can point me in the direction of someone who can? Chicagoland area
Check to see if there is a Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance office in your area. They sometimes get involved in pro bono family cases. The bar association in the county in which you reside may also provide you with the names of attorneys who might be willing to take a pro bono case. Unfortunately for you, family cases can be incredibly time-consuming and very few attorneys are willing to take those cases for free. If your spouse has significant assets, an attorney may be able to take the case and request interim fees (effectively requiring your spouse to pay for your attorney). Best of luck to you.
Does your spouse have an income or any assets that can be used? If so some family lawyers may take your case. If not talk to your local bar association and legal aid clinics. You do need a lawyer to help you.
You are correct that you need an attorney. You might be able to seek the services of your local legal aid office or Prairie State legal services, or you may find an attorney willing to take your case and seek prospective and temporary fees from your husband.
