I got put in jail for a stolen vehicle charge. The vehicle was lent to me by my mother for a brief moment. My mother didn't change the title but has receipt and signed letter from buyer of vehicle purchase with the sellers information . I told the police that repeatedly but they ignored and thru me jail for a day , they let me go with no charges or excuse. I had to pay to get the truck out of the pound and now i lost a days wage , the money for the impound , never been to jail and it was crazy to me , im now afraid of cops .

You can always get an attorney and sue. Doesn't mean you will be successful and based on the facts you presented it doesn't sound like you would be. Your damages are also not very high and I doubt a lawyer would take this case. Police need only probable cause to arrest someone and the fact that the title was never changed would give them that. They don't have to listen to you even though you were telling the truth. Every suspect says they are innocent. They also don't have to give you an excuse if they decide to let you go. You are better off letting this go. No need to be scared of the cops. They did their job. They believed a crime was committed (understandably since title never was changed) and when they realized that the car was not stolen they then let you go. Sounds like they acted very appropriately.

Unfortunately, the police are allowed to confine you for 24 hours without charging you. You are going to need to prove it was because of your race, religion, disability, sex or personal grudge in order to recover anything. Talk to a civil attorney.
