You want to look for an attorney who either does collaborative divorce or an uncontested divorce. You may even want to do pre-suit mediation, to sort out the details of the split without the high costs of litigation. Those are some suggestions to keep it simple and limit the costs. Good Luck!

Hiring a divorce attorney certainly does not mean you will have a "high cost" divorce or that it will no longer be simple. Hiring the right divorce attorney is important. You may wish to get recommendations from people you know so you can find an attorney to help you accomplish your goals, or you may have to schedule several consultations with different attorneys to find the right fit. I would start there. Good luck.

I would suggest you speak to a couple different local divorce lawyers, and explain your situation and desire for an uncontested divorce. However, just because you want a simple divorce doesn't mean that your husband will agree to all of your terms. He may end up challenging it.

If you are in agreement on all issues, divorce in about 30 days from filing. Low cost.flat fee firm is way to go. Look at websites or .

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this after 14 years and three children! I would recommend you start with a consultation. Many local attorneys will provide you with a detailed review of your situation, potential future issues to consider, and help you determine the smartest, most economical way to reach your goals. Some of us with years of experience charge for a consultation, but you will likely leave with much more information than you will from a free consultation. Some attorneys charge so that they have the freedom to advise you on how to best represent yourself if that is what you want or intend to do. We will even provide you the forms that you will need and help you fill them out! Some of us are collaboratively trained to avoid conflict and messy divorces, and want to see the best for you and your children. Hope this helps! Jackie Green

If your divorce is an uncontested divorce, that will keep your fees down. If the two of you agree on everything, I would suggest consulting with a lawyer who does uncontested dissolutions. The lawyer can draft a settlement agreement or a consent final judgment for you and your spouse with the terms you and your spouse agree on, you can sign it and then all that is left is a quick hearing for the judge to sign off. Since there are children involved, you will each have to take the required parenting course too. Your first step is to consult an attorney and get some quotes for an uncontested dissolution. Ucontested dissolutions can be quite affordable. Good luck!
