My dog broke her chain one day as i was at work. she bit another dog who died 5 days later. i agreed to pay the vet bill.

that was 5 months ago. i had since lost my job. the bill was only 300 now i am being sued for 450 plus court costs. can they sue me for more? a week later they had already put up a fence around their yard and got another dog. I should also mention that animal control and the cops were called. both arrived on scene before i got home. the cops got there before animal control and shot my dog.
