If your ability to drive in New York was suspended for failing to appear in court to answer a ticket then it is likely that you were charged with a misdemeanor. You should consult with an attorney in your area on how to proceed. There should be things you can do to obtain a reduction. An attorney will be able to help you with that and is likely to be able to get you a better reduction than you can get on your own.

Sounds like your second charge was Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor crime. You will be prosecuted by the District Attorney's Office in the local court for the jurisdiction where you were driving. You should not plea guilty. You should hire a criminal defense attorney. If you cannot afford one, contact the local court and they will direct you to call the Legal Aid Society or public defender. You should also go to a Department of Motor Vehicle Office and get a abstract of your driving history. Find out why your licensed is suspended or revoked, and address the issue with the local court that suspended your license.

It sounds like you have been charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor, and most courts will require you to have a lawyer and will appoint you one if you can't afford it. You will have to take care of paying the initial ticket before the matter will be disposed of. In some upstate courts the judge would allow you to speak to the district attorney on your first appearance provided you have proof that all prior matters have been resolved.
