Can i do anything to stop my ex husband from sending me harassing emails/texts such as a restraining order?

My ex husband frequently sends me text messages and emails with profanity and slanderous language regarding how I parent our children (16 and 13 years old). They reside with me the majority of the time and with him 6 nights a month. There has been a long standing history of verbal abuse to both my children and I which is the main reason for our divorce.
