My ceiling leaked on a rainy day & ruined my mattress & carpet after one week of living here what can I do?

I haven't gotten any answers im paying for a 2 bedroom apt and having to share one room with our infant by sleeping on floor because of the water damage. The carpeting was also soaked & a few items that are inside of a container I was unpacking. The owner gave me zero answers & roofer stated this was his second time being called & informed them it wasn't the roof but infact bad piping. They made a hole on our ceiling & left us with buckets and a dirty sheet & asked for us to look over it just incase it leaked again. Still no answers & we are left without a bed along with a cold apt because the heater upstairs seems to have gotten damaged with the water & sets off the carbon monoxide alarm. What is it that we can do to get reimbursed for items & days where their is no or little repairs.

A landlord needs to provide the tenant with habitable living conditions of the premises rented. You need to submit a written notice to the landlord, stating the defects within the apartment unit and allow the owner a reasonable time to cure such problem. If the landlord fails to act properly as required under the law, you can take action to repair the damages and deduct the cost from the rent. All other related losses or damages, you can present them utilizing the applicable law indicated.
