How prepared should I be for a divorce pretrial hearing in front of magistrate regarding only financial matters?

My current atty acted like it was no big deal and no pre was necessary. He just said we would go though things to see if we could settle, but it wasn't binding. I am unprepared. He didn't suggest we meet before hand, but I insisted on it. He can only meet me the day before, which would be too late to cancel the hearing if I don't like what he has prepared. Meanwhile I interviewed a new firm because i feel something seems wrong. New firm said they would prepare weeks ahead of time and would need a thorough financial analysis.. etc.. I don't know who to believe or what to do. My current atty is prepaid and the new firm wants another 10K retainer. Current atty has been talking to x's attorney for awhile now.. But I am still not getting answers I need such as records of debt x says are joint.
