I am currently here in the U.S. on a H1B visa. I would like to take a vacation and go back home. What is the maximum period of time I can stay outside the U.S?

There is no maximum time as far as Immigration is concerned but how much time will your employer give you. That is the question. What is the answer? the employer's answer will determine how long your vacation can be.

USCIS does not limit your time so long as you maintain your valid employment. Ensure you are maintaining your employment status on vacation and you should be fine.
