Does passport validity affect the adjudication of H1b application if selected for processing?

I am currently working on OPT(STEM extn.) which expires on Jun 28, 2015. My passport expires Aug 2015. I am applying for H1b visa this year. I am planning to apply for a new passport but it will not be done in time for the April1 filing date. Will a passport expiring soon have an effect on the adjudication of my H1b case if selected for processing? I am only planning to go for visa stamping sometime in December 2015 after I get my renewed passport.

NO. But it might affect the issuance of the visa and or the extension or change of nonimmigrant status. By regulation, you passport hasto be valid for a period of at least 6 months beyond the intended date of departure. Now there are exceptions which you can discuss with an Attorney. My advice, avoid legal fees and anxiety and renew your passport as soon as you can.

It shouldn't affect the H-1B filing with the USCIS but you will need a renewed passport when/if you leave the U.S. and see to obtain an H-1B visa from a U.S. Consulate.

It should not. Only if you would like to travel overseas. So, you need to renew your passport for your HB1 Stamping, if any.
