My husband and I have been charged with Violation of the Georgia RICO Act. What does that mean?

What does that mean? I know that some other people were arrested for the same thing along with conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act, we only have the RICO charge though, at least that is what our bond papers state. I know I need an attorney but I don't know if we can afford one, can you give me an idea of how much it will cost? the amount of hours you normally bill on a case such as this? Is this an easy charge to prove? I am very worried about all of this and need some guidance. Thank you

As you probably know, RICO charges are issued in the face of organized or network crime. The minimum jail time for a RICO conviction is serious business. Attorneys are not to discuss rates on this forum, so you should contact individual attorneys directly to discuss the cost.

RICO is a serious charge and often results in prison time. Most lawyers offer free consultations so you should contact some lawyers and schedule consultations. If you find you cannot afford to hire a lawyer then you should contact the public defender's office and apply for a public defender.

I agree with the other answer posted by my colleague and add that many attorneys offer free initial consultations so you should contact an attorney's office directly so that you can decide if they are the best person to represent you and you can ask them about their specific fees and general questions you have posted here. You will find that fees can widely vary among attorneys.

Rico offenses are very serious, and carry serious jail time. Rico is a broad sword, and not a scalpel. The prosecution thinks you have committed 2, or more, predicate acts in the furtherance of a criminal enterprise. The good news is Rico can be defended against. make sure you hire an attorney who specializes in Rico cases.
