Do have a case if my RA doctor gave me a cortisone injection that caused permanent disfigurement of skin and wrist?

This was only 1 single cortisone shot given for tendonitis in my thumb, about a year ago, Ive seen him once since the injection due to what was happening to my wrist and all that he said was he couldn't believe what it had done , that normally only people with dark pigmented skin have reactions like that. That was it. My wrist has since gotten worse, it looks as If I was badly burned or something. Ive been told he injected it incorrectly or injected too much. He killed whatever was causing the pain, normally those shots only last for a short period of time, his shot destroyed something inside im sure but the damage on the outside is horrific and is permanent.

You should get a second opinion from another doctor, and have a local malpractice lawyer investigate. has a great "find a lawyer" tool to locate a local lawyer. Good luck.

I think it's great that the pain is gone. As to the discoloration, a lawyer is going to have to hire another doctor to evaluate whether it is just a bad result, which happens frequently in providing medical care, or whether the doctor somehow fell below the community standard of care, was negligent and his negligence caused the discoloration. Part of the analysis will depend on your sex and age and general apperance as well as how visible the discoloration is. To bring a malpractice case to trial will cost a small fortune so to make the claim cost effective, your discoloration must be pretty horrific to justify bringing the suit. You obviously don't want to spend $50-100,000 in costs that are not recoverable, even if you win, when a jury would only give you $25k for your troubles. You might ask friends "presume a doctor did me wrong and now I have to deal w/this discoloration, if you were on the jury, how much money would you assess against the doctor for me having to live w/this." If what you hear is consistently below the cost of trying the case, you should not seek to file a lawsuit but file a complaint w/the AZ Board of Medical Examiners so they can further investigate the claim and whack the doc as appropriate. Sorry that I'm not telling you anything you want to hear but it is what it is. best wishes
