What happens if I move to a different state before receiving a DUI in my current state?

DUI 6 views 3 answers
I got in a one car wreck while under the influence of alcohol. They took a blood sample and I assume it will come back over the legal limit. A week after I was released from the hospital, I got offered a job in Colorado. Now, I understand getting the blood test results takes some time, so what happens if I move before these results come back? I'm not trying to avoid dealing with the DUI, I'm just worried there may be some problems when I receive a DUI but have already moved to a different state.

If a criminal case is filed against you, you will have to return to OK on your scheduled court settings to handle the matter or a warrant will issue for your arrest. Depending on the court in which you are charged, you may be able to minimize the number of appearances you have to make. You should consult with a criminal defense attorney in OK who regularly does work in the court where your charge is pending.

Your best bet is to retain an attorney prior to moving. Many people hire attorneys during a pending investigation. This way if something comes up, you will have the representation you need. Knowing that you have an attorney will surely reduce your stress over this. Good luck to you.

The best thing to do is hire an attorney now and move for the job. You will have to return for court dates but that is something that your attorney can assist with.
