An engagement ring is considered as a conditional gift. The condition is that marriage has to happen. It didn't happen, so you are entitled to receive your gift back because the condition did not occur. Simple. Now, if you owe her money, that is a totally separate issue from the gift of the ring. She can take you to court to get her money back but the two do not have any connection between them legally. If she wins and you want to pay back the debt, you can sell the ring to pay her then, and that is assuming that is how you choose to settle the debt. Legally, she cannot just keep the ring and try to offset it against the debt if you have other means to pay the debt.

To the extent that both matters become involved with the same civil action, they likely would be balanced against each other. The value you received from use of the bed during the time the two of you owned and used it together would be a set-off against any claim you make.

Unless it is a family heirloom or cost such a prohibative amount you would suffer sever hardship or the break up was the result of theft, infidelity, and:or physical abuse I would go on with my life and let it go.
