If I turn myself in for a failure to appear warrant on a DWI charge, what happens? How long do I have to stay in jail?

This is my first charge and I failed to appear court for the DWI charge and now have a warrant due to that. I was told if I turn myself into the court, I would stay a few hours, let go and have to show up at court another time. Is this true? Or do I have to be bailed out to leave?

I think the information you received is fairly accurate. However, it's not guaranteed. Before showing up in court by yourself, you should consult with a local DUI attorney for advice and to explore your options. Most firms offer a free consultation, so make a few calls. You need to get the warrant recalled as soon as possible. If you are stopped by police, you are subject to arrest at any time.

More likely than not you will have to be bailed out. Your failure to appear indicates to the court you may not show up again unless they incentive your attendance, A attorney will walk you in on the warrant and try to have a hearing at that time for bail. The longer you wait the greater the risk you are arrested, therefore it is in your best interest to hire an attorney and take care of this as soon as possible.
Where did you get your information is key. If it was an attorney familiar with that court, then it is solid info. On the other hand, if it was another person who thinks your situation is the same as theirs, no so reliable. Regardless, you do need personalized advice from an attorney that will represent you to clear this issue up. Do not risk it alone.
It depends, if the Judge set bond on the FTA but normally you will have to appear before the judge on the FTA. It may also be possible to file a motion to recall the warrant if there was a good reason why you failed to appear.
