the sewer drain/ grate was loose and it flipped on me as i walked off the curb. my foot is badly bruised and really hurts. i told them last week about it but the never contacted me further and they "fixed" it by putting a concrete rock under one side to hold it up. Do i have a case??

Take photos of this defect / dangerous condition, and have a personal injury lawyer investigate. has a great "find a lawyer" tool to locate a local lawyer. Good luck.

The sewer grate could be owned by a public utility. Whoever owns it, there has to be notice - a reason for the owner to have known of the dangerous condition beforehand, to permit them to have made necessary repairs or provided a warning to others. You need to discuss this with a lawyer.

Attorneys Lassen and Zimmerman have provided sound answers. Speaking to the latter's point particularly, I would be interested to know who owned the sewer grate, and how long this perilous condition had been apparent. Sounds like you could have a good personal injury case, but the nuances contained in Attorney Zimmerman's answer beckon you not to be too optimistic too soon. As Attorney Lassen said, allow a local attorney to investigate and analyze this carefully. But do pursue it to the extent you can.
