Win the Massachusetts DUI. Hire an experienced DUI attorney who regularly appears in the MA court at issue. Fight the DUI and win. Best of luck to you.
Unfortunately there will be communication between the states, and you are probably not going to be successful at "hiding" this from the RI registry. And many if not most people who lose their licenses feel they "can't" lose them because of work obligations. However, Rhode Island now has hardship licenses available and provides for the use of interlock devices, all beginning this year. You should ask your attorney about these provisions to see whether they apply to you. It may be that you are able to arrange for such a license once RI is notified of your suspension. Again, talk to your attorney or contact a RI attorney. Good luck to you.
You need to win the MA DUI. Hire experienced MA DUI counsel and fight it. If you are convicted MA will report the conviction to RI and RI will suspend your license as if the DUI happened in RI.
Sorry, but if you lose your license in MA your mostly likely going to be suspended in Rhode Island. However, the communication between the states is often missed. I have seen many times where a person does not lose there license in their home state after a DUI in other State. Your best bet is to fight your DUI in MA. If you lose in MA and Rhode Island suspends you, you can try for a hardship license under the new law. This will allow you to drive for work purposes only, if you have an interlock system in your car.
