CalBRE MAY deny your license application. When applying to get either a salesperson or broker license, you will need to submit a set of finger prints for a criminal background check. The department of justice will then notify CalBRE of any criminal convictions and the nature of the convictions. BRE will look at the nature of the conviction and determine whether or deny or accept. On the application, there should be a section to allow you to disclose criminal convictions. Use that opportunity to disclose it and provide an explanation. Let them know you completed a rehabilitation program related to the conviction. I'd say, better to try and see what the BRE does.

It is possible to get a license with a conviction, rehab and conduct after your conviction are two important factors the BRE will consider. Please do not try to "hide" the conviction. I helped a young woman a few years ago with a similar situation and her first application was denied because she failed to disclose something in her past, it took a YEAR to fix her issue and so good character, Shen has a license now and is doing a great job in her career. Good luck!
