What should be my next step? I hired a lawyer in December 2014 to help with my custody issue, but he went AWOL.

My lawyer told me it will take two weeks to serve her. After 80 days of not hearing anything I decided to call him. I called two times and asked for him to call me. After the third day he called me and said that he has my paperwork on his desk, he's been busy and that he has more paperwork for me. He said he would call me on Fri. of that week. He never did. A week later the dept. of Rev. has been sending me letters and calling me bc my ex opened a case seeking assistance. I called him and left a message explaining this. I also said I feel like we're stalling and if he could please call me back ASAP. It's been about 3 maybe 4 weeks and I've still haven't heard from him. I feel like I got ripped off. I can't afford another lawyer. I'm Confused on what I should do next.

Sounds like you need a new lawyer and that you should get your money back from old lawyer. If he chooses not to do so voluntarily, there are alternate approaches.

I agree with Mr. Miller, you probably need a lawyer who is more responsive. You can use the "Find a Lawyer" feature on to locate a highly rated family law attorney in your area. Please let us know if these answers are helpful by hitting the helpful button. Good luck.

If your lawyer is neglecting your case like that then you have to contact the Florida Bar. Then you will have to retain new counsel. Use of a lawyer is recommended.
