What type of lawyer do I need?

I took my car for repair at a auto shop, I paid the owner the amount money he needs to fix it. The owner never fixed my car and he took my money, and now I can't reach him. What kind of attorney I need?

A civil litigation lawyer. I suggest that you call the police and the New York State Attorney General s Office.

I agree with Mr. Rothstein. This would be a case for a civil attorney. You'd be looking for someone who deals with civil fraud and consumer actions. In addition, there would be potential criminal claims, which is why he is advising you to contact the state attorney general and police. Make sure you keep a record of all communications, emails, letters, transfers of money, etc. when you sit down with the attorney, so the attorney can help you build a case using proper, corroborable evidence. Best of luck.

A general practitioner with litigation experience should be able to help you with this.

I'd say a contract lawyer. Also, contact the NYS Attorney General's office, and maybe the DMV. The AG handles consumer fraud and the DMV licences repair shops.
