5 Steps to using without damaging your case:
Understand that the rating is not even recognized by the Florida Bar. The Florida Bar is the official body that determines lawyer expertise. There are only two rankings: an uncertified “member” and “Board Certified Specialist”. A BCS member is an expert. An uncertified member is not. Here, as on many sites, uncertified lawyers can have a rating higher than an actual expert even though there is no requirement for actual trial experience in serious and complex cases, nor is there any competency testing. See the link below for more information.
Don't go into the facts of the case on . Law Enforcement cruises this site tying together fact patterns, defendants and geography. There is no attorney-client privilege here and admissions may come back to haunt you.
Free legal advice is worth what you paid for it. A social media site is the wrong place to ask for specific advice on a specific case. “What happens at arraignment?” or “how are jurors selected?” are examples of good general questions. Hypothetical questions, fact specific case questions or questions that begin with “what if”, “do I have a case?” or “if” are a) useless and b) dangerous due to #2 above. Lawyers can only give general answers and this is why you see so many answers telling you to speak to a lawyer directly about the specifics of someone's case.
If you already have a lawyer, ask your lawyer.
Avoid legal mills. Legal mills are legal factories that charge “affordable” fees on “payment plans”. Lawyers who own legal factories often have case loads higher than court appointed attorneys and lack the time (and energy) necessary to help you. This type of law firm is run as a money making business rather than as a profession. The best lawyers will often work with you on legal fees, but avoid lawyers who use phrases such as “payment plans for every budget”, “DUIs only” and “affordable legal fees” as key components of their marketing strategy. DUI firms are especially notorious for this. The best criminal defense lawyers expect their fee up front. Prosecutors don't take legal factory lawyers seriously: if they cannot stand up to a prospective client, then they certainly won't stand up to the prosecutor for you
