Lying to the Government to Get Benefits

5 views 4 answers
In August of 2013, I became pregnant, and was able to get on Texas Medicaid and SNAP. I did not say that I was living with my boyfriend, because I needed the money I was getting from SNAP to get food. In March of this year, I reported that I had changed jobs, and they took my SNAP benefits away completely. The lady on the phone told me to call when I had my baby, and I would get them back. I just had my baby, and reapplied for the benefits, and the lady on the phone was asking me all sorts of weird questions, about my boyfriend (the father of the child), and how I was supposed to pay my rent if he wasn't living with me. (which he still is). She ended up calling my landlord, and asking him if we live together, and put me on hold to call him, and at that point I hung up. I need advice.

If there is a way to remove your admission of fraud from this board, I would recommend that as well.

If you lie in order to get benefits, you are committing a crime. Her job is to give benefits to people who need them and who do not lie in order to get more benefits than you are supposed to get. If you qualify for benefits when you include your baby-daddy, you should get them. If you don't qualify, you are stealing from me and every lawyer who answers this question.

Say nothing more to the government. You could be in serious trouble. IF they contact you any further get in touch with a local attorney for advise.
