Do I have any rights to a reduced or no rent for the duration of my rental period?

I have been renting a house for almost three years and have been advised by the property managers that i have two months to leave because the owners are going to sell the house. When I took the house the most important question was; will the house be sold, because the last house I rented was auctioned and I was forced to move abruptly. Prop. mgr. Absolutely guaranteed me that that would not happen. This could not come at a worse time financially.

Are you on a month to month lease or a term lease? If term, you likely cannot be forced out (unless you are breaching a lease term) until the end of the term. If you are on a month to month (which it sounds as if you are if they have given you 60 days notice), and are not in an area subject to rent control ordinances, then you most likely can be evicted. It is doubtful that the manager had authority to promise the house would not be sold and even if he did, for how long is that promise good for? If you were still there after 10 years, would you think they were still bound by such a statement? If you want security, you need to go with a term lease - it is what it offers.

Seek out local tenant's rights counsel. If you cannot afford to hire someone look for a pro bono organization or someone to take the matter on contingency. When a house changes hands in the manner you are describing, you have rights and leverage that a savvy tenant's rights lawyer can assert to reach a compromise that is good for both sides. Usually that leaves you with time to move and money in your pocket. Get a local lawyer to help you assert your rights.
