How long does a creditor have to sue for a past due debt in the state of Kentucky?

i got something in the mail yesterday about dell financial that they are going to start garnishing my wage at 12 percent to repay the debt. I have 12 days to response to this. This account is over 7 years old and i though after 7 years the debt was too old to try to collect on.

The statute of limitations for a debt depends on the type of debt. Negative credit information normally stays on your credit report for 7 years - it sounds like you are confusing that number with a statute of limitations. If a creditor is going to garnish your wages they must first have a judgment against you. Have you been sued over this debt? You need to consult with a debtors rights attorney as soon as possible.

If you were sued and Dell obtained a judgment against you, then your wages can be garnished. You need to talk to a consumer law attorney immediately to determine if you have any defenses or alternatives.
