What to do about stalker in apartment building?

9 views 2 answers
I recently rented an apartment for the summer. The last few days there have been loud partying noises coming from another apartment at like 3 am. I complained to the landlord and they said that what I heard was, according to the tenants making the noise, the result of a stalker getting in the building. The stalker has gotten into the building a number of times recently. I don't know if it's true or not but I am scared and want to get out of here fast. My problem is I already paid for three months plus deposit. Am I entitled to get my money back? Do I have any other recourse (like they should put me in a safe hotel?) Should I demand the landlord contact the police immediately to try to stop this stalker? Am I being too paranoid about this?

People rarely start a party at 3 a.m. as the result of a "stalker" entering a building. You should question the credibility of these claims. If there are any further objectionable noises during the night you should complain directly to the landlord in writing. Since you prepaid rent for a term of 3 months the landlord will be entitled to keep that money if you move out unless there is some provable condition that rendered your apartment unfit to live in.

I suggest that you call the police the next time you hear the noise and let the police figure out what is going on.
