What should I do about this property?

My grandmother passed away in Nov 2007 and in her will she left me her house and property. At the time I was under 18 and my mother was the executor but the will never got probated. More recently I spoke to my mom and we agreed that she could have the place for $5000 plus a payoff of a loan. She gave me the $5000 but then took back $4000 of it due to her name being a power of attorney on my account. She was removed as a power of attorney after this. There also was nothing signed The house is still in the estate of my grandmother but the taxes are in my name. What can or should I do to get the house legally in my name and sell it because I am tired of dealing with my mother over it? The taxes are up to date or at least mostly up to date. I live in CA the house and her are in TX

Consult with an experienced probate attorney to assist you. Filing the Will for probate as a Muniment of Title will accomplish your goal. Good luck!

You will need to retain an attorney as much more information is needed to form a good answer. You don't say where your grandmother died or the size of her estate, why almost eight years have passed since her death before doing anything, and you don't say who has been keeping up the house and paying the taxes since her death. Depending on the answers to all of those questions an attorney can advise you in the best way to change title on the house to you.

You need to hire a probate attorney in the county in which your grandmother was domiciled to determine your options. If she died domiciled in Texas, her mother can be admitted to probate as a muniment of title.

You are wise to seek an experienced attorney to assist you with getting this matter straightened out once and for all. Your mom may not know what to do or she may be delaying for other reasons. In any case, you will need to reach out to an attorney directly ASAP to protect your interests (if it is not already too late) as this site does not allow us to contact you.
