Does an EMAIL count as "in writing" and as a binding contract?

In my lease it says that I'm to give a notice of 60 days whether or not I'm staying or leaving "in writing". Does an email count or does it need to be a certified letter or other contract binding document?

This is sufficient notice for staying in your tenancy. You should have another lease signed between you and your landlord. If you do not, then you will be subject to a month-to-month tenancy.

There is appellate case law that says an email can be a contract if all the material terms are there.
