I pleaded no contest on charges of welfare fraud,I got 60 days(2day credit) my case was in San mateo county, but I live in l.a county now. They said I can do my time out here now,and I qualified for house arrest, but it's too much money. I can't afford to pay the fees,so I was just thinking of turning myself in and doing the time. I have no prior convictions, never been in trouble with the law. I'm a mother of four and can't do the whole 58 days:( my brother said l.a county is over crowded and might get out sooner, he got sentenced to 160 days and only did 10 days. But I don't know if women jail is the same as men's jail, please help!!!

Jail overcrowding has diminished since the passage of Proposition 47 last year. You will do about 50% of the time, or 28 or 29 days. If there is some overcrowding, you might be out a few days sooner. You either have to do the house arrest or jail time--there is no third option.

The sheriff at the jail is really the only person that can tell you exactly how much time you'll do. The max is likely 50% of the 60 days but it could be less based on how crowded the jail is or becomes. Good luck.

You'll serve half of 58 or 29 days. Give or take. Hopefully less.

My guess is you will do way less than 50 percent. The woman's jail is still crowded and it is a non-violent charge. It's certainly possible you could do up to 50 percent but I would bet on less. How much less is anyone's guess.
