As a new immigrant to US, can I apply for social Security on the basis of Passport with Immigrant Visa? I haven't received GC.

Green Cards 7 views 3 answers
It's been 7 months since i entered US on immigrant visa, however I still haven't received my GC from USCIS due to their administrative delays and backlogs. When I go to Social security office they ask me for 2 different photo ids. Social Security website states I can apply with Passport and Birth certificate. How can i get social security without the green card yet received.

You are a resident of the U.S. and you should first apply for a state issued identification document or a driver's license and then visit the social security administration office. Good luck to you.
