When do I consult a lawyer on bad business practices? This is going to cost me thousands to fix their error. and I have evidence

I had an experience with a company where they told me to install their a product they sold me, in a manner that ended up voiding the manufactures warranty. I was able to get proof after the fact that the salesman does give this advice. I tried getting a refund through the BBB. I was advised today that the BBB is closing the case as “Answered - the business addressed the issues within the complaint, but the consumer remains dissatisfied.” The BBB emailed me and advised that after consulting their VP I may want to contact Consumer Protection. At what point do I call a lawyer? Should I talk to The Consumer Protection Bureau First? What can I expect from them? I should probably include that this is a fairly large multi state company who is denying everything, however I have a call recording

A complaint with the Utah Department of Consumer Protection is a better avenue than the BBB. They will actually investigate the warranty practices of the company. Once they open a case, if your evidence is strong, the company will likely want to assist rather than face a DCP record and possible fine. A lawyer can assist you through the process, but it will cost you money. If the product has significant monetary value, then I would spend the money and consult with an attorney who handles consumer protection complaints and warranty claims.

Most attorneys will be willing to set up a free consultation. Therefore, you have nothing to lose. The sooner people consult with their attorney the better. Your attorney can help you determine which course of action makes the most sense. They may want to aid you as you attempt to collect through the Consumer Protection Bureau. Additionally, you need to be aware that if an when the statute of limitations runs, you will be barred from bringing a claim. Talk to an attorney as soon as possible.
