I was involved in an elevator accident at work. Do I have a case?

I was in an elevator at work when it the belt snapped and I was dropped 2 floors. I was stuck for a long time with little to no air circulation and was very scared. I am not sure how to react to this but it was very traumatic and I am worried about my safety there now.

If you sustained an injury as a result of the incident, you would likely have a viable claim against the owner of the building and the elevator maintenance company. Have have received any medical or psychological treatment as a result of the incident?

You should look to pursue a worker compensation claim as well a claim against the party responsible for the accident(if the party is not your employer)... Consult an attorney/attorneys knowledgable about personal injury and worker compensation claims. the initial consultations should be free.

Were the phone lines and lights working. If not there may be a statutory infraction against the elevator company or building. Contact local counsel as I have successfully litigated these types of cases as have others.

You would have a Worker's Compensation claim at the outset. You may also have a third-party personal injury claim if the building is owned by somebody besides your employer, or if the elevator was maintained by an outside company. The consult a competent personal injury attorney immediately. They may also be able to provide some basic advice regarding your workers compensation claim.

Did you sustain any injuries, other than being scared? If you sustained injuries, then you are eligible to receive workers compensation benefits both for medical care and lost wages. If there are parties that are not your employer you maybe able to sue. contact an attorney to discuss your options.
