According to my divorce papers, my child support should end when the youngest graduates high school or turns 18 whichever comes first. He graduated back in May but my job is still taking money out. They said that there is no specific termination date on the order. What do I need to do to have this stopped? I asked If I could bring in the kids birth certificates and a copy of my divorce papers but the HR person said she thinks I need to go and get a court order to stop it. The order is in Cook County.
File a motion to terminate child support. The sooner you get the motion on file and hard, the sooner your child support will be temrinated, assuming there are no arrearages. Make sure you send notice to the children's mother and, if nencessary, IDPH.

Yes, you will need a court order to stop your child support obligation. If you believe your ex-wife will agree to this, you can prepare an Agreed Order to be submitted to the judge assigned to your case. If not, you will need to prepare file and serve a motion seeking to end your support obligation. While this may be a relatively easy process, it will go much smoother if you are represented by an attorney. As a minimum, consider consulting with an experienced family law attorney - many offer free initial consults. Bring all of your court papers with you.
You need to file a petition to terminate the child support. You need to notice it up and get it in front of the judge assigned to the case.
Better yet, retain an attorney to do this for you. You may have been overpaying for quite some time.
