Privacy laws violated between a company and myself
Anonymous6 views2 answers
I signed up with a company to help me through my disability situation about 6 months ago and turns out the CEO (a long story in itself) that was helping me with services from that company gave private information about me to her friend who recently passed away. A friend of mine who's aunt had passed went to her home to collect up some things and get her things in order for the family and came across all the documents and so on that I had turned over to this company guaranteeing me it would be kept private. The CEO also had run a criminal background check on me as well because that too was found among some papers at the deceased womans house. I did not give her permission to do that nor leave my info with this woman. WHat should I do?
You should review your agreement with the organization carefully as it may allow them to consult with others. If you don't think the information was provided for legitimate purposes to provide you services then you will need to talk with a attorney if you experienced some sort of actual damages that you an prove and sue to recoup
Your permission is not required to run a background check o--anyone can do it,
If you have a contract, and that contract was breached in some way, and you could prove the breach, and you have damages and you could prove the damages, you may be able to sue in civil court. If your damages are significant enough to be able to hire a lawyer. If damages are not signigicant (realizing that is a subjective term) you may be able to proceed in small claims court.
